Carrick Young Guns Shoot Down Dromore
Carrick U13’s first venture in the cup saw them convincingly beat Dromore by 36 points to 12.
It certainly didn’t go Carrick’s way from the start and inside the first minute
the powerful co. down number 8 ran through the red’s defense only to drop the ball
over the line-
The Reds struck into the heart of the Dromore defense several times but the home side’s tackling was solid until Ross Nicholson scored a super unconverted try wide on the left. Again and again Carrick assaulted the Dromore line and finally Jordan Robinson crossed over and only two minutes later a super break by Sam Wallace sent him clear to score at the posts, a try which he converted himself.
Dromore came out blazing in the second half and it took great character to pull down some of their big forwards.
Carrick went back on the attack and once again the abrasive Jordan Robinson blasted over to score.
Evan Sloan who made some sparkling runs hit a bone crushing tackle which had the crowd on one side gasp in horror and on the other wince in appreciation. This tackle eventually set up James Carson who was playing the game of his life to score his first try of the season, Wallace converted.
Lack of concentration allowed the Dromore no. 8 to score a converted try. But Carrick weren’t finished and chasing a kick ahead Wallace scored his second of the game which he converted himself. Dromore scored what was only a consolation try as the game to a close. Well done Reds! Next stop co. Cavan.

Carrick U15s Defy Dromore Debacle
This was a rearranged Brewin Dolphin Cup pool match which had been rescheduled by the Ulster Branch to be played on or before March 6th following postponement due to recent inclement weather.
There however there was nothing simple about the day itself as Dromore contrived
to unravel more twists and sub-
It is unlike your scribe to provide editorial like comment in match reports but this set of circumstances somewhat demand it.
The crux of the matter was that Dromore RFC youth structure as do all youth structures depend heavily on players who attend local secondary schools and the like and are not regular Saturday morning rugby playing schools.
Dromore HS were scheduled by the Ulster Branch to play Ballyclare HS in the Medallion
Bowl semi-
The schools game was convienently played at Dromore RFC with a view that HS players on finishing their game would swap jerseys and pitches & then play for the club side whose fixture against Carrick would kick off at 11.15am.
This however is in direct contravention to IRFU regulations & policies regarding
age grade rugby and the health & safety and welfare of young players. This meant
that Dromore RFCs plans for this were a non-
How anyone could hatch such a Machiavellian plot is beyond logic, to expect a group of age grade players to play for two different teams, in two different Ulster Branch competitions, at the same venue & at or about the same time defies reason and certainly totally lacks duty of care to the players themselves.
Perhaps there was an arrogance factor at work thinking that Carrick would acquiesce through pressure applied via implication that this was Dromores home game and that they would do as they liked regardless of regulations, policies and protocols.
Dromore RFC for some reason or other made no representation to Carrick to request postponement or through intransigence offer to forfeit & concede the game to Carrick.
In fact during the mornings visit to Dromore not one home coach or official approached or spoke to the Carrick U15s coaching staff.
It was thus that at the much later time than KO was scheduled that the Carrick XV lined up to play a numerically depleted Dromore RFC team.
The advantage accrued by having the extra players told heavily on the Dromore RFC players who it might be said were not best served by their coaches and management having them take the field for what was to prove a one sided affair.
Carrick racked up 41 points in 30 minutes and on the intervention of the Dromore coaches to end the fixture early saying that they would not be turning out for the second half, the referee blew for half time & fulltime after those 30 minutes.
An outstanding performance by the Carrick second rows M Wilson & I McMenemin saw the vying for man of the match with McMenemin just shading the result.
There were some outstanding team and individual tries with solo efforts by Marcus Jones & Darren Robinson of note.
Try of the match however belonged to Dean Henderson whose support running saw him at the end of a handling move started on the Carrick 10 metre line, from a Lewis Stockman tapped penalty John Magill took up the running before linking up again with Stockman on the left.
Good evasion close to the touchline found wing Adam Williams on the inside and the wingers deftly flicked offload was taken by Henderson for a 20 metre run in.
Next week Carrick travel to Cavan for their final cup pool match, a full turnout is required at training on Wednesday night and full availability for next Saturday.
Scorers: M Wilson T, I McMenemin T, D Robinson 2T, C Wilson T, D Henderson T, M Jones T3Con.
MOM: I McMenimen. The Spoon of Doom will be presented to the recipient at wed night training.
