Carrick Youth sides progress in Cup Competitions.

Saturday 28 March saw all three of Carrick Youth sides, who are sponsored by NK Fencing Ltd, scheduled to travel to away fixtures to compete in cup competition. The club under 18 side faced a very difficult journey to Omagh missing no fewer than 8 of the normal starting line up. Coaches Michael Dickson and Warren McClean had worked hard with the boys during the week to formulate a game play co counteract the formidable forward strength of the Omagh forwards.  The match itself was played on a heavy pitch suiting the heavy home pack.  Carricks forwards battled game fully working hard at the breakdowns to secure ball for the patched up back line.  In a competitive first half the home side held the advantage 12-3.   Carrick started the second half well with stand in No.8 Darryl Smith making some great breaks fro the base of the scrum, giving the away team some go forward ball.  To the home sides credit they did not let Carrick breach their defence and indeed increased their lead to a final soccer line of 27-3.  The Carrick coaches post match had nothing but praise you their players who all gave 100% effort in this keenly contested cup fixture.

In the other fixtures the Under 16 side received a bye into the 11/4 final of the plate competition due to their opponents to being able to field a team for the fixture. However the boys will be able to get a run out before next weeks match with a Under 16 friendly against Belfast Harlequins having been arranged for this Wednesday night. (Kick off 7.30pm). All players should be at the club no later than 6.30pm for pre match preparation.

The clubs Under 14 continue to develop and improve travelling to Ballymoney and coming away with a convincing 33-0 victory.  Playing into a strong headwind in the first half Carrick forwards, under the leadership of dynamic scrum half Lewis Stockman, dominated play and tries from Dale Wilson and L Stockman saw them ease in a comfortable 12-0 lead.  In the second half Jamie Warnock, playing in the No.10 shirt for the first time , kicked astutely pinning the opposition back in their own 22 time after time. The same player also went on to score a well taken try to round of a pleasing individual performance. Further tries from  the strong running Jordan Patchett,  the ever improving Marcus Jones saw the carrick side home in style.  Gaint 2nd Row Matthew Wilson also demonstrated his footballing skills slotting over all four of his conversion attempts.  Next week this side host local rivals Ballyclare in the ¼ of the Bell Lawie cup competition.
