Under 16s start New Year with a hard earned Draw
This return fixture saw a very confident Ards side going onto the pitch expecting to brush aside the Carrick under16’s. The Carrick side captained by Ethan Clarke set their stall out from the first whistle with the pack playing into the strong wind, keeping the ball tight. Phase after phase was kept in the pack as the fierce wind prevented any chance of an open game.
This was a forwards battle with neither side giving an inch the Carrick thrusts being led by Ethan Clarke, Johnny Murray and Mark Ferris . Time and again Carrick bulldozed their way up the pitch only to give the ball up just when they were threatening the Ards line.
Much to Ards credit, their defence did not crumble under the intense pressure created by the rampant Carrick pack. All aspects of the game were dominated by Carrick, taking the Ards scrums against the head and attacking their lineouts.
Both halves saw Carrick create the chances only to be let down by small handling errors. In the backs Arron Ellis and Alex Scott in attack with Peter Simpson again shoring up the Carrick defence with his now trademark crunching tackles.
