v’s Bandbridge, A
CARRICK 2ND FIFTEEN SNATCH VICTORY FROM JAWS OF DEFEAT !!
BANBRIDGE 17 -
Carrick 2nd fifteen headed to Banbridge with what was supposed to be a weakened team through injury's. Conceding seventeen points in the first twenty minutes it certainly looked like a heavy defeat was heading their way. With four wins out of four it appeared this was the end of a tremendous start to the season.
It certainly turned out to be a game of two contrasting halves. Carrick were completely
off the pace of the game with a very lack lustre first period. the Banbridge forwards
completely dominating the game, driving easily up the middle of the park and scoring
two early tries. this followed with a penalty and Carrick looked shell shocked. Somehow
they managed to keep Banbridge contained for the rest of the half. 17 -
Ten minutes before the end of the first half Carrick seemed to be wakening up with two bursts by Robbie Williams seeing him being stopped five metres short. Carrick pressurised up to half time with Craig McArthur making good yards but unfortunately they had no reward.
At the break a rousing team talk from captain Adrian Patterson seemed to focus the
team. Carrick became more involved and started taking the game to Banbridge with
good rucking at the breakdowns and ball retention. Scum half Chris Wallace was able
to have some ball after being frustrated in the first half. This pressure by Carrick
was taken advantage of by a quick thinking Craig Wallace fifteen minutes into the
second half chipping over the Banbridge defence and gathering his kick only to be
tackled by two defenders, he then recovered quickly to his feet and dived over to
score an inspiring try. A second followed by Glen Baxter. The ball broke to Gareth
Williamson from open play at the their own ten metre line, a rolling maul took Carrick
deep into Banbridge territory, the forwards sensing the try line kept control with
Baxter breaking off and scoring. Chris Wallace converted and Carrick seemed to grow
in confidence. 17 -
Carrick now took full control of the remainder of the game, again captain Patterson stepped up to the mark and scored a fifth try in the last move of the game. Another fantastic result showing great discipline and character to come from behind and grind out an excellent win !!
