Mixed results for Carrick...
The normal routine of a Saturday returned yesterday following weeks of bad weather, with minis, youth and senior rugby being played. The minis had a great morning, with Malone and Rainey being the opponents. Results were mixed but as always if was fantastic to see the hundreds of kids taking part.
The youth had two sides away to Randalstown with a win and a lose being shared between the U14s and U16s, while last Wednesday the U18s defeated Malone 3pts to nil under the lights, their first defeat all season.
The 1st XV defeated BHFSP for the second time this season 34 pts to 10 pts, with the scores coming from Aaron McKinney 2, Michael Gilmore, Andrew Kinkaid and Karl Wikinson, who also picked up a penalty and 3 conversions. Man of the match was awarded to Paul McIlrath.
The 2nd XV progressed into the next round of the Crawford Cup following a comfortable win, away to Dromore 2s, 48 pts to nil. The scores came from Kyle Jordan 2, Kris James, Ross Crymble, Wes Anderson, Mark Patterson and Johnny Sheriff, who also had a penalty and 5 conversions. Unfortunately Curtis Rea received a nasty knee injury towards the end of the match, so we wish him a speedy recovery. They now take on Omagh 2s this Saturday at home, so a big effort at training this week is expected.
The 3rd XV lost heavily away to Ballymena 5s who are undefeated in the league this season.
The U20s are awarded the points against Malone, while earlier in the day the Grammar will be playing in the final of the Schools Trophy, against Down High School, after beating Rainey at the weekend. The final wil ltake place at Cooke/Instonians RFC, Shaws Bridge, this Wednesday, KO 14.30
Finally the 1st XV Alternative Valentines night is being held this Saturday, which I'm sure will be a good night for all who attend.
