Carrick U15s win at Ballynahinch

A great second half performance, led by man of the match second row Iain McMenamin, saw Carrick U15s rugby side score an impressive 37-21 victory over their Premier league rivals Ballynahinch.  Carrick started the game superbly with Aaron McCauley scoring the opening try in the 3 minute of the game.  Unfortunately for Carrick this sparked an immediate response from their opponents who scored 3 tries in quick succession, all of which were converted. Just before half time Carrick responded themselves with J Beasant finishing off a period of forward dominance by Carrick leaving the score 21-10 at half time.  After the break Carricks pack of forwards  took complete control of the game . All 8 forwards carried the ball with conviction leading to further scores from  J Beasant ,

 I. McMnenimin (2) , M Wilson , D Robinson and B Young. This left the final result 337-21 to Carrick.  A great result for Carrick but the lesson to be taken from this result is that this young side must play with the intensity for the full duration of the game and not just one half.

At U 13 level, Carrick were very unfortunate to go down 21-12 in a closely contested game.  Although Carrick were superior in many facets of the game, their opponents ability to run more aggressively with the ball and finish off scoring opportunities eventually led to defeat for the U13s.  Next week away to Coleraine, hopefully an improved performance will side this promising side get back on track in the league.

For the second week in a row the U17 side travelled to an away fixture lacking personnel in key positions.  Although they eventually went down 31-5the score line does not paint a true reflection of the game. For long periods of play Carrick held superiority in terms of possession and territory but failed to turn this dominance into points. Additionally, a lack of concentration at key moments allowed the opposition in to score what could only be described as” soft tries”.   Hopefully with players returning from injury for next week the fixture away to Coleraine will see this side returning to winning ways.

Training at Carrick continue on Wednesday nights starting at &pm. All new players are very welcome.
